Playlists and The Bandcamp Randomiser Bluesky

The Bluesky Tracklist - A woman's profile within a transparent vinyl record with the words Bluesky Track List written over the top.

The Bluesky Tracklist

When I was a child, way back in the dusty old 1970s I had an obsession with transistor radios. I had quite a few. I also had lots of mono earphones which I would beg from family members and family friends who had been somewhere exotic for a holiday.

My favourite thing to do with those radios was to find that feint radio signal and listen for unheard musical treasures. Every so often I’d catch something and the wind would change, there would be a tractor beam moment and I’d land on a radio station that had uninterrupted music for 30 minutes and I’d be locked in. My memory is hazy so I have no idea what that station could be. Part of me thinks it was Radio Luxembourg but I can’t be sure. It feels like it would be a Saturday but time is an unhelpful narrator.

Anyway, that’s what the bluesy playlist reminds me of. The element of surprise, the pleasure of something coming on that takes you aback or just tickles your fancy that particular day or moment.

The randomizer is more like the moments in my teens wandering around Manchester, crate diving for new to me music. Every Saturday and some weekdays when the bus driver would allow. Mooching around like the Artful dodger, dancing my way through the gray industrial streets of the city center trying not to be noticed while I navigated to each stop off. Yanks/Powercuts, Eastern Bloc, The Corn Exchange, The Underground Market…No wonder I had more jobs as a kid than I managed as an ‘adult’ – The randomiser reminds me of that, And yes there’s probably a small pinch of hyperbole going on here but come on. Life’s too short to care anymore.

If you are looking to find music I can’t think of a more entertaining way.

Even if I am biased.

***I’d like to point out that these playlists are important as safe spaces for all. I want them to be inclusive of all except for bigots – if you have a problem with that then I would steer clear of me. I don’t tolerateĀ  or accept any shifty opinions based on bigotry, stupidity or ignorance – off you fuck.***

If you want to be a part of the playlist or randomsier I only ask a few things.

  1. Have a Bluesky account

  2. Put your artist name in your profile.

  3. Link a song or bandcamp

  4. If you can put your bluesy tag on your website, bandcamp or streaming service.
